Chelsea benam Thailand 4-0

SELEPAS sekadar menang tipis 1-0 ke atas pasukan pilihan Malaysia, Khamis lepas, Chelsea menunjuk taring apabila membelasah Thailand 4-0 dalam aksi persahabatan yang baru berakhir malam ini.

Chelsea hit Thailand All Stars for four

CHELSEA just a single goal, with Fernando Torres firing another blank for the Blues.

Frank Lampard’s shot from distance separated the sides at the interval, but a howler from Pattarakorn Tanganurat to allow Jose Bosingwa’s second five minutes after the interval allowed the floodgates to open.

Branislav Ivanovic crashed in a third just two minutes later, and substitute Florent Malouda added the icing on the cake.

A barrage of second-half changes from both sides jarred the flow of the game, but Chelsea still emerged comfortable victors.

Andre Villas-Boas set up his team in a 4-3-3 formation, again handing Torres a starting berth, flanked by Daniel Sturridge and Nicolas Anelka up front.

But despite controlling the possession in the first half against a clearly inferior Thailand All Stars, Chelsea struggled initially to break through.

Sturridge was the liveliest of the strikers, but scuffed a couple of early chances while cutting in from the left.

The visitors had the ball in the net after 33 minutes as Lampard chipped across the area for Anelka, who sidefooted into captain John Terry’s path to tuck away into the goal - but a slick move was disallowed for offside.

Lampard’s corners were a constant worry for goalkeeper Tanganurat, but the hosts rode their luck and, having managed to go half an hour without conceding a goal, began to open up a little.

Lazarus Kumbe was a willing runner down the left hand side, and caught out a sluggish Branislav Ivanovic when Thersdak Chaiman’s vision released him.

But once Petr Cech had saved a long-range effort from Kumbe, the Blues rallied and struck their first goal.

Lampard, sensing Tanganurat’s nervousness, tested him out with a typical low drive from distance, and sure enough the Thai stopper was caught out as the ball nestled in the corner.

His second half gaffe was worse, allowing Bosingwa’s non-descript cross through his hands and in for the second goal.

Josh McEachran combined with Ivanovic to lay on the third, with the Serbian defender finishing with confidence as Chelsea threatened to run riot.

But the Blues did require substitute goalkeeper Hilario to keep the hosts out thereafter.

The Portuguese stopper parried away Higuchi’s effort, then smothered Leandro Dos Santos’s chance when the ball broke his way, before expertly tipping Worawut’s free-kick around the post.

Chelsea still dominated, however, and could have scored more.

Yuri Zhirkov spurned a clear-cut chance, while Didier Drogba found the net only for the offside flag to be raised.

But Ashley Cole and Malouda combined with class to create the fourth and final goal, with Cole threading a through ball through to the French international, who fired a first-time strike high into the net.

Sterner tests await Chelsea, and questions over the form of Torres will persist, but there were signs that the Blues are looking stronger as their tour continues.
