Champions League 2009/10 second round draw

December 18, 2009

Jose Mourinho will return to Chelsea with Internazionale in the last 16 of the Champions League, while David Beckham also has the chance of a reunion with Manchester United after last season’s beaten finalists were drawn against AC Milan.

The draw for the second round of Europe’s premier cup competition was made in Nyon on Friday and Chelsea, who topped their group ahead of Porto, were handed a daunting task in taking on Italian champions Inter.

The second leg of the tie will see Mourinho return to Stamford Bridge where he is still idolised after ending Chelsea’s 50-year wait for a title when leading the Blues to Premier League glory in 2005 and 2006.

Beckham, who will join AC Milan on loan from LA Galaxy at the start of the month, could well face United for the first time since his departure to Real Madrid in the summer of 2003.

Arsenal were handed a favourable tie against Porto, whom they faced in the group stages of last year’s competition, winning 4-0 at Emirates Stadium before a weakened side lost 2-0 in Portugal.

In the pick of the other ties, defending champions Barcelona take on Stuttgart and Real Madrid face Lyon, the club they purchased striker Karim Benzema from over the summer.

The matchdays are:
First Legs: February 16 & 17 and 23 & 24
Second Legs: March 9 & 10 and 16 & 17
