Profile

JONJO SHELVEY

Seen as one of the most promising young players in the English game, the attacking midfielder signed for Liverpool at the age of 18 after making 49 appearances for Charlton.

His first team debut for the Addicks came in April 2008 in a 3-0 defeat at Barnsley, becoming Charlton’s youngest ever player at the age of 16 years and 59 days and it would not be long before he attracted the attention of Arsenal and Chelsea.

Signed by Liverpool in May 2010 in a £1.7 million deal, Shelvey admitted that it was a dream come true to play for the Anfield club as he has modelled his game upon that of Steven Gerrard.

Strengths: His distribution is excellent, reads the game well and has an eye for goal.

Weaknesses: Lacking in pace, his inexperience in the top flight counts against him.

Career high: Moving to Liverpool in May 2010.

Career low: Relegated to League One with Charlton in 2008-09.

Style: Clever, cool, a gifted passer with vision on the ball.

Quotes: ”I’ve mirrored my game on Steven Gerrard - I love him to bits, everything about him, from the way he walks to the way he plays. I want to have played with him and against him by the time I’ve finished my career. That’s my dream.” Jonjo Shelvey on signing for Liverpool.

Trivia: He has suffered from Alopecia since a young age.
